Early this month I said:
…thinking about how to facilitate connections between people that are pursuing similar learning goals…lead me to think about ways to make employee development plans in the corporate setting much richer…an interactive personal learning environment that supports a particular learning goal and is connected in a social software sense to both other employees and people outside the company who are on similar journeys at the given moment.
I hadn’t been following Lee Kraus until tonight, when prompted by Lee’s comment on my Informal Learning list, I caught up with Lee’s recent writing. Bingo! Lee’s LearningFlow application (about) is exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the above. I registered and poked around just a bit, including getting in on the “Design of a PLE model” learning goal. At this point in its young development the application has fairly limited functionality and is a bit ragged in spots; however, absolutely appears directional correct. Good job Lee.
As noted in this post’s title the application also prompted me to make a shift in perspective to reaching for a Community Learning Environment that is somehow integrated with my more Personal Learning Environment.
P.S. Google search nets only 722 returns for “community learning environment” compared to 43500 for “personal learning environment.”
Ray,
Thanks so much for the comments and reinforcement! As you can tell, I haven’t been able to follow-up on everything until the weekend. But I am totally juiced about your comments and for checking out our site. We totally recognize that LearningFlow is not exactly what it needs to be and we are so anxious to get back to making the needed changes. We love our customers too much to complain about not having time to work on our “pet” projects, but you probably understand. We are actually planning for some pretty great changes, so I’ll post to the blog when they get done!
Thanks again,
Lee
