More Prior PLE Work: Jeremy Hiebert Ignites Musing

A few days ago in my first More Prior PLE Work post I was having an aha moment about distinction between “tools and resources” and “use case” views for describing personal learning environments. Since then I discovered Jeremy Hiebert’s PLE model from almost exactly one year ago, described here.

I like how Jeremy combines some process categorization (collecting, reflecting, connecting, publishing) with temporal categorization (past, present, future) with tools & resources. One stop shopping, getting the complete description on a single ‘slide’.

When browsing Jeremy’s writing since that post, his New Systems for Sharing Learning Goals post in October caught my eye and got me thinking about how to facilitate connections between people that are pursuing similar learning goals at any one time. Which lead me to think about ways to make employee development plans in the corporate setting much richer. Compare the value of the typical ‘object/task with date’ development plan with an interactive personal learning environment that supports a particular learning goal and is connected in a social software sense to both other employees and people outside the company who are on similar journeys at the given moment.
